Eat Anti Aging Chocolate To Lose Weight?

December 26, 2009 by GiGi · 1 Comment

anti aging chocolateCan eating chocolate help you lose weight? According to MS Apothocary, their new anti aging chocolate can also help you shed pounds. Their Tru Chocolate product is sugar-free, dairy-free, organic, vegetarian-friendly, Certified Kosher (OK), and rich in antioxidants. One piece of their chocolate is 36 calories. Okay, let’s dissect…

Being sugar-free is important. Sugar creates glycation in the body which can speed up aging and of course, is bad for diabetics. Their chocolate is sweetened with xylitol, a sweetner which does not produce insulin in the body.

Dairy free is important if you are lactose intolerant. Most dark chocolate does not have much dairy in it anyway.

Rich in antioxidants? Sure – but so is most dark chocolate. Dark chocolate has a very high ORAC rating ( a way of measuring antioxidant value). I don’t think the Tru Chocolate product is any higher than most good dark chocolate.

I did get excited when I read this: “Clients who initially tested the chocolate reported being “satisfied” after consuming only half of their normal meal. Another die-hard group of chocolate customers reported a decrease in their late-night cravings while a third group found themselves dropping their habitual tendencies to subconsciously stress eat which included a regular rendezvous with the perpetual office candy jar.”

That sounds pretty good, although no one mentioned how it tastes. So I clicked on over to their website and ….YIKES!  $200.43 for 6 bags!! $21.50 for a bag of 15 pieces! There doesn’t seem to be a way to buy just one bag to test it.

I think I’ll stick with my Trader Joe’s Organic 73% Super Dark Chocolate.  It’s only $2.99 a bar and I get 12 pieces. I’m very good about eating only ONE small square a night. One square is only 45 calories.

I can’t say it’s helped me lose any weight, but I haven’t gained any either and I do feel I’m eating a fairly healthy chocolate.

If anyone tries the Tru Chocolate and loses weight – please let us know!! Wouldn’t that be a great way to start the New Year’s resolution? Eat chocolate and lose weight!

For the rest of us, it’s back to reality….diet and exercise…
