Not All Resveratrol Is Created Equal – My Bad

March 5, 2009 by GiGi

Welcome back!

no cis resveratrolI first started talking about Resveratrol about a year ago.  Then in July of last year, I did this post Resveratrol – A True Anti Aging Antioxidant.

Although the information in that post was correct, there has been additional information discovered since then.  I mentioned in the article that trans-resveratrol is being studied more.  In fact, trans-resveratrol is the type of product you should be looking for on the label.

There are two types of resveratrol – trans and cis. The great benefits you read about ; antioxidant, cardiovascular and longevity benefits were tested using the trans type. They didn’t get the same results from the cis type.

Additionally, the term Resveratrol is used extensively on the internet and by most distributors of low potency resveratrol products. Without a clear label declaration, it is not possible to know which of the two forms of resveratrol (cis- or trans-) is in these types of products – so look for trans on the label.

More importantly, I discovered that the product I was promoting in that article was tested by Consumer Labs and found to contain only 26.5% of claimed resveratrol! Yikes!

I have since changed the product I recommended out of the article and found one that does contain the right type of trans-resveratrol. Not all products are tested by Consumer Labs.

One thing I did find interesting: They did a price comparison (based upon the actual amount of Resveratrol found in each product and the prices varied wildly – from .12 cents per 100 mg to over $45 per 100 mg!

I mentioned getting ripped off by companies promoting “anti aging” in this post: Anti Aging Doesn’t Have To Be Expensive.

Yes, I agree, you have to check the content of resveratrol to make sure that it has what it says it has, as in purity %, and also that it’s trans-resveratrol as well, which is the form of the ‘red wine’ polyphenol that is more studied.

Purchasing this product online may seem like a fairly easy task. Unfortunately, it’s not. Due to its robust popularity, there are numerous resale outlets that offer bogus and duplicated products.

I’d definitely agree with you both. The quality of the resveratrol supplement is very, very important.

I’ve looked at many different manufactures and actually found a Resveratrol Acai and Maqui Berry Blend from RegenerationUSA which contains 200mg Trans Resveratrol which in my opinion is the best currently on the market. Look carefully at the ingredients, some manufactures don’t even indivcate which type of resveratrol your buying…
