True Confessions – Here Are The Supplements I Take
February 11, 2009 by GiGi
Welcome back!
I’ve had several people ask me “What supplements do you take?”
Personally, I think supplements are a personal choice and one you should make based on your own research and your own body.
However, in the spirit of “full disclosure” and “practicing what I preach”, here is the list of vitamins and supplements I currently take. Please share what you take by posting a reply to this post.
Multivitamins:
Whole Foods PopsThese are a good whole food vitamin. I bought some when they were on special. For something a little less expensive, but still a good quality multivitamin, I also use:
The only brand I take is Carlson’s. Been taking it for several years.
I take this once a day with the R Lipoic Acid BEFORE I eat anything.
My chiropractor recommended this and said that the Orotate version is much better than other types. He was surprised when he found out how cheap I can get it online! This is a recent addition to my supplement regime. Swanson has 2 good brands:
Ubiquinol – I’ve just ordered this because I read it’s a more potent version.I’ll probably add others in the future or maybe exchange one for another – I don’t like to take too many pills per day.
Please share what you take! Especially if you’re taking something different from this list that you really love.

What about vitamin D? I am a scientist and have done a ton of reading about which supplements are safe and effective. The only things I take I take are one multivitamin and vitamin D (1000IU, oil based gels).

Yes, actually I think Vitamin D (in the form of D3) is great. I got my daughter, who has MS, to start
taking it. It’s probably on my list of supplements to substitute in sometime in the future.
Oh no, sorry about your daughter. I just wrote a post this week about the latest research on vit D and MS. It seems like most of the damage is done before teenage years. Best of luck to you and your daughter… xoxoxo

Thanks, Darya. I read your post and have heard that information before (about people living farther from the equator). I don’t think that applies to her since she was raised in the desert (near Palm Springs, CA) and got plenty of sun her whole life.
However, better safe than sorry and although it’s possible to OD on Vitamin D, you’d have to take it in far greater amounts than she’s taking.
Hey GiGi. Good post. I might do something similar at my blog in the future. At the moment I take omega 3 caps, zinc & magnesium caps, whey protein, creatine, l-glutamine and glucosamine. I used to take multi vitamins but after doing some research on the topic I decided that I would rather try to get the vitamins I need from diet alone. I don’t really agree with the “one size fits all approach” of multi-vitamins.
