Do Your Bad Habits Make You Look Older?
February 4, 2009 by GiGi
Welcome back!
Did anyone catch The Today Show this morning? They had a segment about how your lifestyle choices could be making you look older.
Of course, this isn’t news to us. I think everyone knows by now that prolonged sun exposure and smoking will make you look older.
Apparently, they took groups of older twins and compared them side by side on how they aged. The twin who had developed more bad habits was supposed to look older.
However, what they REALLY discovered was that the twin who was heavier had less wrinkles and overall looked younger.
Now that’s a great endorsement for healthy living, isn’t it?
Although I found the comparisons interesting (and frankly, in most of the comparisons, I didn’t see that much difference at all), there really wasn’t anything new mentioned.
They did show some of twins that had hormone replacement therapy looked younger than their counterparts.
I would have liked them to explore more about whether the heavier twins had developed more health problems as a result of their extra weight.
But the segment was just about what makes you look older, not about healthy living.

Ha ha, my little brother (22 yrs) has tons of horrible habits including smoking and poor nutrition. I am turning 30 this year and his friends are always shocked when they find out I am older than him. I feel bad for him, but I know he does it to himself.

Bad habits will not only make you look older, you’ll feel older too! My dad looks like in his 20s when he was 45. He said it’s because he eats his greens, doesn’t smoke, and run everyday
