Think You’re Too Old? Try Running Over 50

December 24, 2008 by GiGi

Welcome back!

running over 50 This is, after all, an anti aging site.  Obviously, exercise is a major player in health as we age.  I recently found a fellow blogger past the age of 50 that runs.  And blogs about it.

There are a lot of inspirational baby boomers out there that can motivate you if you are looking to put “exercise more” on your New Years Resolution list…yet again.

I’m not a runner, (I prefer biking) but I enjoy reading his fitness tips about running.

I especially enjoyed this blurb:

“You may go a few days, or even a whole week without running, and start to feel you’ve failed.  Well, you haven’t.

If you’ve started running, you are a runner.

Missing scheduled runs happens to everyone.  Don’t give up and hang up the shoes.  Think long term.

Plan to continue running for the rest of your life, and don’t feel defeated by a few setbacks.”

That can be said about any exercise program you start, can’t it? Go ahead and read Running Over 50.  It may not inspire you to start running, but hopefully it will inspire you to start exercising or stay with the program you’re on.

I’m putting Running Over 50 in my Recommended Sites. If you haven’t checked those out lately, please do. These are sites I’ve found of interest either in anti aging, nutrition or exercise. The Recommended Sites is on the right – just scroll down a bit.

If you have a site you think should be in my Recommended Sites, leave a comment and let me know.  I don’t want to make the list too long, but I may give them a write-up and share it with everyone else.

2/22/10  UPDATE – I just realized that his site is no longer up – so sorry about that! I’ll be looking for a replacement site!

I have a question: I’m 56 years old and use to be an avid runner, during my 40s. I would like to run again, but am not sure if the tendons in my legs are up to the task. Are there any supplements I can take, for, say, maybe a month to help strengthen my leg muscles, tendons and cartilage before I start? I don’t want to injure myself and have to wait to heal. My body still responds to exercise… I feel I can do this, but need a little advice for what I should do prior to attempting this. Thank you.

    Will,
Sorry, not my area of expertise. I’ve heard of Glucosamine Chondroitin to help with joints and also Hyaluronic Acid. Purity Products has something called H.A. Joint Formula that’s supposed to be just for joints and cartilage.

You might try asking Joe over at Running Over 50 – he would know more than I do.
