Don’t Count on Vitamins To Help Your Heart

Okay, here’s the warning - this is a rant.
I was watching the Today Show (an early morning news program for my non-American readers) the other day when they had one of their doctors on saying that if you take vitamins to help your heart, you are essentially just paying for “expensive pee”.
Excuse me?? Who the heck is taking vitamins to help their heart?? We’re taking Fish Oil to help our hearts, we’re taking Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) to help our hearts, but we’re NOT taking vitamins to help our hearts.
We take vitamins for all kinds of other benefits - such as antioxidants, which helps to fight free radicals, which help with cell metabolism (and anti aging) and oxidation.
We take them because they provide vital nutrients our bodies need but cannot produce by themselves. We SHOULD be able to get them from the foods we eat, but that’s a subject for another debate.
Heck, I take them because they helped me with that “afternoon lag”.
So why in the world would a DOCTOR go on TV to IMPLY that if you are taking vitamins to help with your heart, you’re wasting your time? Why didn’t she say what vitamins are really good for? Why didn’t she say what you SHOULD be taking to help with your heart?
Sigh…I’m done with my rant. I do hope you take everything you hear on TV with a pound of salt. You’ll need it.

So its been lies all these years that vitamins are good for you but in fact they don’t help with the important parts of the body.
No, not at all. Vitamins are VERY good for you. But they aren’t necessarily going to help you with your heart problems.
