Don’t Forget About Your Aging Eyes – World Sight Day
September 26, 2008 by GiGi
Welcome back!
October 9th is World Sight Day and this year it’s focused on Aging Eyes. You have a chance to win a one year supply of contact lenses just by entering their contest – details below.
We focus so much about other parts of aging, we sometimes don’t think about our eyes. Did you know:
- About 300 million people are living with a serious vision impairment
- 90 % live in developing countries with little chance of proper treatment.
- More than 80 % of the people living with blindness are over 50 years of age
- Yet 75 % of blindness cases are preventable, curable, or treatable. Over 150 million people live with defective eyesight simply because of uncorrected refractive errors.
Lensshopper is promoting this important event to raise awareness of the problems with blindness associated with aging by sponsoring a free contact lenses contest.
Simply click on the banner below and fill in your name, city and email to be eligible. There are also runner up prizes for a 6 month supply.
The contest is only for the month for October – so do it now!

My parents, who are in their late eighties/early nineties, have both been diagnosed with Age Related Macular Degeneration. My mum is almost blind. It’s very distressing.
You could say that at their age they’ve had a good innings, but it doesn’t make it any easier for those of us who have to watch their decline.
Sorry to hear that, Judith. It’s tough to watch that decline no matter what the problem is.
