Anti aging properties in salmonDid you know that you can get more anti aging benefits from your food depending upon how you cook it?

Granted, I think we all know that fried food is unhealthy, but there are certain cooking secrets that will release the anti aging properties of foods in a more efficient manner.

Here’s some handy tips from Prevention:

1. Most of us know that tomatoes are a great source of lycopene (a powerful antioxidant that has been linked to cancer prevention). But did you know that cooked tomatoes (such as pasta sauce) have much more lycopene than raw tomatoes? 171% more!

2. Roasting a fatty fish (such as salmon) with olive oil doesn’t increase its fat content. Frying, however, will increase it by 10%. So pop the salmon (with a little olive oil) in the oven instead of the fry pan. (personally, I like grilling)

3. Crush your garlic- I learned about crushing garlic from watching Rachael Ray. But did you know that you should let it stand after crushing for about 30 minutes BEFORE you cook it? Apparently, that activates and preserves it’s heart-protecting properties. Cooking regular chopped garlic even 6 minutes can totally make it lose all its benefits.

4. Steam broccoli – anything other than steaming will tend to reduce the glucosinalates, which are the cancer-fighting compounds.

5. Slow cook meat – meats cooked in liquid at moderate temperatures develop fewer AGEs, which are linked to inflammation and heart disease.

I’ll be coming up with some more anti aging food tips, but please be sure to share any tips you know of in the comment box!

I have what I call my health soup. It has everything. Add veggies at the end so they do not get overcooked. Eating beans regularly help regulate blood sugar. Also cinnamon has actually been proven to also regulate blood sugar as well as xylitol.

You have a great site….carol stanley

Here goes my delicious veggie soup. And to top it off it is very economical. We get least two dinners and two lunches from it.

1.5 pounds of black, white or red beans
one large can of chopped tomatoes
    3tbps. olive oil
2 tbsp each of oregano, basil, thyme, turmeric
if you like it hot add 2 tbps of cayenne pepper
    1 tbsp cinnamon
    four cups of choped kale
    two cups of small carrots
    two cups of chopped celery
    two cups of chopped cabbaged
    two cups of chopped spinach
    four garlic cloves chopped
one cup of parsely or cilantro

optional: one pound of cut up chucksteak

Soak the beans over nite…rinse and put in large pot with enough water to cover them generously. Add seasonings, olive oil and cook for two hours and let sit for at least two hours.

Add olive oil and can of chopped tomatoes.

Add all vegetables and optional meat.

Cook for one hour to one hour and a half. ..until beans are tender.

Add salt and pepper to taste
When serving sprinkle parmesan cheese over each bowl.

This anti aging stuff is really something…However if you analyze the word anti aging…we are not against aging…we want to age but spectacularly. If we did not age we would………perish the thought. But I love all the healthy ideas and learning them is exciting to me…And I will get to share some when I give talks.
