Walk In Bathtubs – Some of the Benefits May Surprise You

January 28, 2010 by GiGi

Welcome back!

This is a guest post about walk in bathtubs. I’ve always thought they were older folks who had trouble getting around, but after looking at them, they look like fun! Check this out:

Did you realize that walk in bathtubs have more benefits than just having the door in the side? If you’re used to thinking of a walk in bathtub as being something that is only for people with mobility issues, you may be interested in some of the following facts.

Any form of exercise conducted in water is less stressful on the body. The built-in seat of a walk in bathtub is perfect for individuals needing to exercise without the fear of losing their balance. The buoyancy the water provides can make lower body exercises easier to repeat. When the benefit of hot water surrounding the body is added, healing of muscle tissue is accelerated and damage from exercise reduced.

It can be difficult to submerse yourself all the way up to your neck in a standard bathtub. A walk in bathtub by virtue of its deeper design makes this far easier. Someone who knows how to relax and float on their back can easily avail themselves of the benefit of reducing the pull of gravity on their body by 20%. This allows joints to expand which relieves tension considerably. Even someone who has never learned to swim will benefit.

Bathing stimulates endorphin production. When a walk in bathtub is equipped with hydrotherapy jets, this effect is even more predominant. Endorphins help to reduce our perception of pain. Natural endorphin production can make the difference between intolerable pain and pain we can live with.

The combination of hot water and hydrotherapy in a walk in bathtub can be beneficial to someone with type II diabetes. A study conducted by Dr. Philip L. Hooper at the McKee Medical Center in Loveland, Colorado, demonstrated that type II diabetic patients who were required to soak in a hot tub for 30 minutes a day, six days a week were able to reduce their average blood sugar levels by 13%. Diabetics who are unable to exercise were especially helped.

Owning a walk in bathtub is the equivalent of installing a hot tub in your house. Use your walk in bathtub to condition your muscles for a good workout. You can also use your walk in bathtub to improve the quality of your sleep.

Walk in bathtubs aren’t just for people with mobility issues. They are a wise investment for anyone.
