Easy Anti Aging: Start With Your Tap Water

June 23, 2009 by GiGi

Welcome back!

aquasanashowerfilterYou’ve probably heard about the dangers of tap water.

On the other hand, you’ve probably heard that most bottled water is no better than tap water. And who wants to waste all that plastic?

I must admit, it gets pretty confusing.  And here’s some other scary facts I learned recently about our tap water:

  • Most tap water maintains a residual chlorine level greater than is recommended for swimming pools, 1.5 ppm.
  • Showering and bathing in chlorinated tap water robs skin and hair of their natural protective oils, causing scaling, itching and bacteria imbalances.
  • Cancer risk among people using chlorinated water is as much as 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine.
  • The EPA estimates that 98% of all homes have pipes, fixtures or solder joints in the household plumbing that can leach some level of lead into the tap water.

Chlorine and other harmful chemicals vaporize into the indoor air primarily from showering and bathing. When chlorine vaporizes and combines with other organic compounds in the air it becomes “chloroform gas”, a strong irritant to the tissues in our lungs. Chloroform gas causes fatigue and constriction of air passages in the lungs.

What About Bottled Water For Drinking?

Most bottled water is bottled and sold within the same state to avoid federal regulations. There are no assurances or government requirements that bottled water be of any higher quality than tap water.

City tap water, from surface water, must be filtered and disinfected. In contrast, there are no federal filtration or disinfection requirements for bottled water.

I’ve always been concerned about drinking water, but I never realized that showering in all that chlorinated water was harmful, too.  But that might explain my dry hair and skin.

After doing some research, I found a company that provides both shower filters and in-home filters at a much more reasonable price than most.

Plus, if you click on the banner below and decide to buy, you’ll get a 20% discount! (You’ll see the code when you add something to the cart.)

I have a birthday coming up – guess what is on my list?

I agree with you that water is essential to our health and is critical for anti aging. In particular the water you drink is even more important. Our bodies are made up of about 75% Distilled Water .. and that is the water we should be drinking to maintain our health. Spring or bottled water is basically hard water and contains inorganic minerals which will get deposited in our joints and in our arteries causing health problems. Only pure distilled water can remove excess toxins and residues from our body and help as become totally clean and pure on the inside.

I looked up distilled water on Aquasana’s website and here’s what Dr. Greg Novac says:
“From a practical standpoint, the human body was designed to run on water that exists naturally on the planet, water that contains traces of inorganic minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium. Nowhere on Earth does demineralized water occur naturally. Distillation and R.O. systems produce de-mineralized water with an acidic pH. Many recent reports claim that “prolonged consumption of distilled or demineralized water can only lead to some form of mineral deficiency”. Water by nature has to balance itself; when the minerals are stripped from water pH drops and the water becomes acidic. It then seeks to balance itself (a basic law of nature) by taking on minerals, primarily calcium. If we consume demineralized water, it will actually pull minerals from the body with which to balance itself.”

Using a shower with water that is chlorinated is a quick way to get the chlorine absorbed in your body as heated water and then heated skin becomes a quick way to absorb the chlorine. We got a Aquasana shower filter and love it!
